This morning, the EBU announced Moldova’s return to the Eurovision Song Contest. Moldova now joins Bulgaria and Romania who will all be making their anticipated return to Eurovision which is taking place next May in Vienna, Austria.
Teleradio Moldova hosted a press conference this morning at the Chișnǎu Arena. During the press conference Moldovan broadcaster TRM announced a new selection format following a consultation with representatives of the Moldovan music industry and producers. The selection process will be managed by two producers:
Roman Burlaca – A director for commercials and music videos, he has worked as a producer with popular Moldovan artists.
Serghei Orlov – A producer who has experience when it comes to Eurovision. He is currently working as a manager for Moldova 2016 representative Lidia Isaac.
The idea of having two acclaimed producers overseeing the selection “ensures a professional, transparent and credible selection, which emphasises the artistic value and international competitiveness of the song.”
The song submission window will open on November 7th and will close on December 7th. This gives artists 30 days to submit their song for the national selection.
After the deadline, TMR and the producers will review all of the submitted entries and will make a long list for live auditions. The national final is scheduled to take place on January 17th at the Chișnǎu Arena. Between 5 and 10 acts are expected to be selected for the live final. The jury for the national selection will consist of 20 members, 15 Moldovan members and 5 international members. The final result will be decided by the international jury members (33%), the Moldovan jury (33%) and the public voting (33%).
TRM will also offer the winner of the national final a cash prize to support their Eurovision journey. The winner will also receive support from the producers throughout their Eurovision experience.
Earlier this year, Moldova withdrew from Eurovision due to economic challenges. Eurovision fans are very excited with Moldova’s return as they have brought iconic performances over the years. Including social media sensation Epic Sax Guy and Natalie Gordienko with her iconic entry “Sugar”.
Last time Moldova participated at Eurovision was in 2024 where the contest took place in Malmö, Sweden. Moldova was represented by Natalia Barbu with the song “In the Middle”. Moldova placed 13th in the first semi-final, with a total of 20 points.
